NexiTech, Inc. is a provider of Virtual Tape Emulation software technology for use in the emerging market for Enhanced Backup Solutions employing Disk-Based Backup. Products that require this technology are Virtual Tape Libraries, as well as Disk-to-Disk (D2D) and Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape (D2D2T) Backup Appliances. Interest in Virtual Tape solutions has grown significantly due to the declining cost of disk storage relative to tape media. In particular, the arrival of Serial ATA (SATA) disk devices and SATA RAID solutions has helped to spark interest in Virtual Tape. There are obvious performance advantages of direct-access disk storage relative to sequential-access tape storage for backup and restore applications, and many of these applications now allow backups to be done directly to disk files. But Virtual Tape solutions allow IT administrators to shrink their backup windows while using their existing tape backup and restore procedures, and to lower their tape media management costs. These cost savings can be significant in today's environment of exploding data storage requirements.
