Software library selected by U.S. Navy
NexiTech, Inc., an information technology company that specializes in computer storage-related software products and services, today announced that its custom Advanced SCSI Programming Interface (ASPI) software library has been chosen by the U.S. Navy to load mission planning information for the Presidential Helicopter, also known as Marine One.
Marine One is the call sign of any U.S. Marine Corps aircraft carrying the President of the United States. It usually denotes a helicopter operated by the HMX-1 "Nighthawks" squadron, either the larger Sikorsky VH-3D "Sea King" or the newer, smaller Sikorsky VH-60N "White Hawk" airframe.
For extreme reliability, the Presidential Helicopter uses a special type of Solid-State Disk (SSD) to hold vital mission planning parameters. Laptop computers running recent security-hardened versions of Microsoft Windows are used to program the device with the Advanced SCSI Programming Interface (ASPI) data storage software protocol.
"NexiTech has created a robust, secure implementation of the ASPI protocol for this program," stated Donald E. Matthews, CEO and president, NexiTech, Inc. "It operates with newer versions of the Windows operating system while meeting the rigid security requirements of the U.S. Navy. This software enables military personnel to safely prolong the life of legacy equipment, saving taxpayer dollars."
NexiTech dealt directly with the U.S. Navy because it handles all engineering and acquisition services for the U.S. Marine Corps. Lockheed Martin Corporation facilitated the transaction, acting as the buyer. Consequently, NexiTech now appears on Lockheed's list of approved vendors.
NexiTech is a software development firm and provider of special purpose storage appliances, such as its Virtual Tape Array system, through select OEM partners. With specialization in kernel-mode device drivers for Windows and Linux, NexiTech develops components like its ASPI Manager for commercial and government customers worldwide, including the NAVAIR Presidential Helicopter mission. Expertise in SCSI Target Mode for Fibre Channel and iSCSI helps consulting clients and customers alike create innovative storage appliances and solutions.
